Message 300zx300zx300zx. You remind me much of him, until he changed his ways and became a more functional member of the tt.net society (read: cult).

1996 300ZX Twin Turbos did not have VTC, but they have cam and timing changes to make up for lost horsepower. If you search for stock dyno charts between the 1990-1995 and 1996 300ZX TT's, you won't see the 96's producing 20 less horsepower, it was an UNPROVEN horsepower drop.

96's are generally unfavorable because parts are less available (96TT Auto doesn't even have an ECU upgrade yet!).

This is all neglecting the HUGE FACT that MAGAZINES ARE RARELY ACCURATE. The times they give are guidelines, not facts. They drive the car for one day, with one set of weather conditions. It's possible that in 1996 the temperature was 15 or 20 degerees colder outside than it was when they tested the other years, resulting in more horsepower and better quarter mile times. Not to mention I'm SURE you're basing the comparisons off of different magazines and (if not different magazines) different drivers. What one guy can do one year is completely different than another guy can do another year. 13.9 is the generally accepted 1/4 mile time for the Z32TT, but some magazines said as slow as 14.1. There are members of tt.net who have done mid 13's on a stock 300ZX TT simply because they know how to drive the car (a "professional" driving the car for one day isn't going to know the sweet spots for launching and shifting).

I'd suggest you get off the 1996 vs other years debate, because, no offense to 96 owners, the 96 comes out behind. It's much harder to make power with them, thanks to OBDII. Now quit arguing this, because I stated all the facts as to why this is a pointless argument.

Until you get all 7 years of Z32 (sold in the US) with extremely low mileage (~20 miles, as if they rolled off the dealership lot) all head to head on a 7 lane wide 1/4 mile track (so no one can argue about temperature changes) with the same EXACT driver, same shift points, and same tires/air pressure, there will be no year that actually comes out ahead of the others. In fact, the only deviation you'd see would be due to differences in weight (addition of air bags, different brake materials, different interior materials, etc).

and like Nick said, the Z32 wasn't meant for drag racing.

THE END
